In 2009, the world-renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, signed a series of agreements to open up the 26-kilometer long Luxor-East Bank section of the ancient-Egyptian Valley of the Kings for tourists, thereby making it the first tourist area in Egypt.
Dr. Hawass told BBC News that there were still secrets to be discovered: “I’m going to open every tomb,” he said. “There are still things to discover. There’s still much work to be done.” (BBC News)
This activity is only one of many projects that Dr. Hawass is involved in, including preserving the national heritage of Egypt. Dr. Hawass is the former minister of the Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs and former Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) president.
With the wealth of information available to scholars and researchers, it is not surprising that many different information-communication methods were used over the centuries, for example, transporting documents and information from one location to another.

In the early 2nd millennium BCE, the Egyptians wrote in an alphabetic writing system, using pictographic scripts for some words. For most words, an individual sound was used.
